The hydraulic systems that were started to be used in the brake systems of the 1920s were used in control of the DC-3 flaps in 1934. Hydraulic systems, have been used to provide the necessary power to moving systems such as aircraft landing gear, flaps, and brakes. Hydraulic systems can be as simple as braking systems on a small aircraft or they can be as complex and large at the large passenger aircraft.
There are various subsystems under hydraulic systems to achieve the required level of safety and reliability. These sub-systems consisting of pump, tank, accumulator, heat exchanger, filter systems, valve, etc., can have a power requirement of 100 to 5,000 psi depending on the work to be done.
